A study of attitudes in the United States, Canada and India has linked ideologies with the way people assess the credibility of researchers. Research subjects were given research reports to read with photographs of the authors. The research subjects were also asked a series of questions. Those with elitist attitudes generally said that male researchers were more credible. Those with egalitarian attitudes were more likely to say that female or minority researchers were more credible. The study was conducted by scholars at the University of British Columbia and information about the research may be found here.
